November: Calder selects a sculpture from among the works exhibited at Galerie Percier and donates it to the recently founded Museum Sztuki (Museum of New Art) in Lodz, Poland. The work is later lost during World War II. (Calder 1966, 118)

Calder publishes "Comment realiser l'art?" for the first issue of Abstraction-Creation, Art Non Figuratif. Describing his mobiles, he writes: Each element can move, shift, or sway back and forth in a changing relation to each of the other elements in this universe. / Thus they reveal not only isolated moments, but a physical law of variation among the events of life. / Not extractions, / But abstractions / Abstractions which resemble no living thing, except by their manner of reacting.
