Calder: Small Sphere and Heavy Sphere
14 September–26 October 2019Pace Gallery, New York

Calder: Small Sphere and Heavy Sphere traced the breadth of Calder’s innovative practice leading up to his conception in 1931 of the mobile—an unprecedented form of kinetic sculpture that signaled a paradigm shift in the history of modern art. The show took its name from Calder’s first hanging mobile, Small Sphere and Heavy Sphere (1932/33), a synthesis of visual, kinetic, and aural experience.
